DESCRIPTION: Japanese stick or pillar timepiece weight driven wall timepiece in wood case with "nama gata" scale, which curved scale compensates for the changing length of day and night, floral engraved skeletonized front plate mvt with crown verge escapement and horizontal balance wheel, c1830
CONDITION: the number of pillar clocks with this scale amounting to perhaps 2% of all clocks produced. The pointer on the cross bar reads on the nama gata scale according to the season of the year, eliminating the need for changing the scale, adjusting the numerals, or switching foliots as required on other Japanese models. The old weight has had a lump of lead added to it to improve performance. The mvt is in good condition and ticks & with original key. The case has original finish, original hood and original key drawer. This rare piece is in very good condition, small crack in top glass. Note front plate is in the shape of a basket with handle filled with flowers. Ht 15"
